The whole TGAA main cast is expert combatants and it's kind of just unrelated to the main plot. The plot is a legal drama. Most physical altercations tend to happen offscreen.

Kazuma is an expert swordsman and archer but Ryunosuke surpasses him in horseback archery. Susato is a martial artist capable enough that upon seeing a waxwork of a serial killer she goes "oh I could take him". Sholmes is a boxer per the text he's based on. Van Zieks is obviously a master swordsman, but it's to the point that he can win, outnumbered, in a gunfight, and say it's lucky his opponents even survived (albeit with another master swordsman on his side).

Iris has a gun.

i got bored and decided to make pokemon teams for them, i'll explain my reasoning under the cut since it's gonna get lengthy lmao

i did this either off of vibes, motifs, story arcs or whatever i thought would suit them well if anyone has any other ideas about them i'd love to read them in the replies or tags!

RYUNOSUKE NARUHODO

Galarian Darumaka - His daruma is one of the few possessions of his that isn't inherited from Kazuma, and I like the Galarian form symbolising his entry to the UK

Shinx - The most Chuunosuke Pokemon ever, it's literally blue and has the flower pattern on its ears

Kingdra - A dragon like in his name, I also liked the idea of 221B family each having a Pokemon that represented an animal in the UK coat of arms, the counterpart to this would be the Welsh dragon, it's also blue which is his colour and matches his aquarium hobby

Clawitzer - His shrimp-keeping hobby is an endearing detail about him so I think he would get a Clauncher and just take care of it really well

Hisuian Decidueye - I liked the Japanese characters having distinctly Hisuian Pokemon, and his archery hobby suits Decidueye

Donphan - This is one of the few I kind of picked based on typing, I liked the idea of him having a Phanpy and it evolving when he steels his resolve, gaining armour when it becomes a Donphan, it's also Ground-type which is strong against Sneasler which I consider Kazuma's signature Pokemon

SUSATO MIKOTOBA

Cherrim - Matches the Mikotoba family crest, I like to think this was Yujin's Cherrim and he gave it to her upon his return from Britain

Lopunny - Matches Usato, this would initially be a Buneary and evolve when she returns to the UK to show her growth after having gone through a trial as a lawyer herself, it's also got fighting spirit like her

Gardevoir - A graceful Pokemon, I thought it suited the yamato nadeshiko archetype her character is based off, parallels Kazuma's Gallade showing their familial connection

Sinistcha - I like the idea of regional variants allowing her and Iris to bond quickly, she also mentions preparing Japanese tea when her and Ryunosuke start feeling a bit homesick if I remember correctly

Sawsbuck - It's spring and summer forms suit her well (cherry blossoms and tea leaves), it's counterpart in the coat of arms would be the Irish elk

Throh - Shows her prowess for Judo

Honorable mention: Froslass (same reason as Gardevoir)

KAZUMA ASOGI

Galarian Yamask - Represents his vengeful spirit, the face it carries thought to be it's previous life kind of suits Kazuma's story of resurrection and matches his time as the masked disciple quite well

Aegislash - Sword

Talonflame - Fiery passion, suits his colour scheme and kind of embodies his hachimaki flying behind him lmao

Gallade - Parallels Susato's Gardevoir, showing their familial bond, a warrior Pokemon

Sneasler - Type weakness to Ryunosuke's Donphan which embodies his resolve triumphing over Kazuma's need for vengeance/justice, a Hisuian Pokemon showing his roots (reflected in his leitmotif) and it's a cat like Nyasogi

Serperior - The Asogi crest and it's more Asian design compared to other snake Pokemon suits him well I think

Honorable mention: Seviper (matches his colour scheme, snake motif), Shedinja (resurrection)

HERLOCK SHOLMES

Klinklang - Represents his cog imagery, shows his passion for invention and machinery

Lucario - Boxing background, it's ability to sense auras make it quite the handy partner when conducting investigations

Rotom - Represents his modernity, it's also cheeky and mischievous which suits him

Litleo - Counterpart to the English lion in the coat of arms, it's not Pyroar because I think Pyroar is kinda ugly, but also a baby Pokemon makes him appear more father-like, it's also emblematic of his allegiance to the Queen

Sudowoodo - Bonsly received as a trade with Yujin, symbolises their cultural exchange and his penchant for disguises

Azumarill - Deceptively silly, kind of OP, representative of Hareley (a blue bunny hehe)

IRIS WILSON

Galarian Rapidash - Counterpart to the Scottish Unicorn, it also suits her colours

Polteageist - Showcases her love of tea and a regional variant that allows her to bond with Susato quickly

Sylveon - I wanted a Wagahai proxy but none of the cat Pokemon really suited her so I thought an Eevee that evolved to Sylveon would be the next best thing, it also suits her colour scheme

Stufful - Bearis representation, a Bewear would suit her older self quite well I think, it's cute but deadly like her inventions

Roselia - Her love for gardening, it's not Roserade because she's still young, also represents her flower motif courtesy of her name

Chansey - A healer Pokemon, represents her medical background due to idolising her "father"

BAROK VAN ZIEKS

Dusknoir - Said to guide spirits, matches the moniker of the Reaper, it also just suits his scary image

Noivern - Shows his love for bats and the vampire motifs incorporated into his design, I thought this suited him best because it's the most imposing of all the bat Pokemon imo

Escavalier - I like to think him and Klint traded Karrablast and Shelmet, the resulting Escavalier kind of symbolises the legacy he inherits after Klint's passing, a reminder of his duty from his brother and shows his allegiance to the Queen with the knight elements

Chandelure - Gothic, and suits his aristocratic background

Sirfetch'd - A swordsman/knight figure, shows his loyalty to his country

Umbreon - Hints at his familial connection to Iris, matches her Sylveon, Nyanzieks representative since none of the cat Pokemon seemed to suit him either to me

Honorable mentions: Gliscor and Crobat

YUJIN MIKOTOBA

Mr. Rime - A tap-dancing Pokemon, it also looks like him, matches his colour scheme and represents his journey to Britain, it's quite perfect for him lmao

Eldegoss - A flower Pokemon to mirror Susato/their family crest, it has healing properties which match his medical background

Stoutland - Received as a Lillipup from a trade with Sholmes, it has elements of a Yorkshire and Scottish Terrier which kind of represents the cultural exchange, it's also said to be a trustworthy partner and a rescuing Pokemon which suits him well, "My good man, you resemble each other so closely now! HA HA HA!"

Audino - A healer Pokemon, it has good hearing which is extra useful whether in his investigative work or as a doctor

Hisuian Samurott - suits his colour scheme, showcases his Japanese roots, moustache

Chimecho - A musical Pokemon, distinctly Japanese in origin, resembles a "miko" (shrine maiden) which is phonetically similar to his last name haha

I know this looks like I just gave him every Pokemon with a moustache but aside from Stoutland this was not intentional lmao, it just happened

GINA LESTRADE

Whimsicott - A prankster Pokemon that likes mischief, it suits her colour scheme really well lmao

Thievul - Quite obvious, matches her penchant for pickpocketing

Pancham - A scrappy Pokemon, I think her and the Pancham would do the same haughty pose and it also represents her rough upbringing

Obstagoon - Another scrappy Pokemon, I like to think she sends it out to stall when she's getting chased for pickpocketing, and later when she joins Scotland Yard she uses it for stopping criminals

Togedemaru - Representative of Hedgina, it's quite cute and kind of shows her innocence despite her prickly first impression

Maschiff - A stand-in for Toby, I can see it jumping Ryunosuke and scaring him like in the story, and I like to think Gregson is fond of it in the same way a dad who was against a pet starts being endeared towards it lmao

HI!! and of course I have general hcs for Kate, I think she is one of the most underrated characters in the fandom-

Main character: Kate the Chaser

Secondary characters: Toby, Slenderman, Masky, Hoodie, Cody, Rouge, Wilson, The X, The Observer, Jeff.

Warnings: mention of an alter ego, mental and physical manipulation, death, apathy, amnesia, mention of burned (it's Jeff).

GENERAL HCS FOR KATE THE CHASER

𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗛𝗬𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘

It's difficult to understand Kate's physical build;

She wears baggy clothes and, only on missions, her mask;

She still remains very muscular but not excessively;

She is 165 cm tall (5'5'' feet);

Her skin is very pale but not nearly as cadaverous as Toby's;

Her hair is black and straight, slightly dirty, going slightly past her shoulders;

Her eyes change depending on whether she is wearing the mask or not;

If she doesn't wear it, which is very common when she is in the mansion, Kate's eyes will be a deep blue;

If she wears it, her eyes will have completely black sclera and white iris;

This peculiarity of her eyes comes from the abilities that Slenderman "gave" her when he forced her to become his proxy;

Thanks to these particular eyes she can see in the dark but is also very sensitive to light.

Her clothes are most of the time dirty with blood, grass, earth and mud;

Her mask, on the other hand, is mainly very damaged but it's also dirty with soot and only wears it when The Chaser takes control of her body;

𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗚𝗘

Kate doesn't remember how old she is or how much time has passed since she became a proxy for Slenderman;

After all, she doesn't even remember how she became one;

However, her body remains young, given Slenderman's powers, and she looks like a 24 year old woman;

She probably has many more, maybe 30;

Unlike Toby, she isn't aware of having had a past life outside of the one she lives now, so she doesn't have any kind of resentment towards the victims;

𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗦 + 𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗘𝗫𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬

Kate uses female pronouns while her alter ego, 'The Chaser', doesn't use any at all;

To me, Kate is asexual and aromantic;

She knows well that her purpose is to serve Slenderman and she knows well how dangerous she is when The Chaser takes over;

She feels like she killed someone important to her a long time ago...

...but she much prefers to hide this feeling in the depths of her heart;

Furthermore, if she's honest, in the state she's in, she's not attracted to anyone;

The only people she remembers are the other proxies and the residents;

And she finds them absolutely disgusting;

Also, just the thought of being loved and loving gives her goosebumps;

The feeling disappears when Kate realizes that she could probably never feel love towards anyone and no one could ever love a person like her;

Obviously The Chaser is also asexual and aromantic, it could never feel attraction to anyone since it was created by Slenderman;

𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬

Kate, since she has basically lost control of her life, has become apathetic;

The few times she is in the mansion her face is stoic;

She has become an empty shell against her will and cannot stop this process of internal deterioration that has already begun for many years;

She may still feel sympathy towards someone but she simply doesn't find anyone worthy of note;

After all, the people Kate meets are simply characterized by different ways of killing and appearance;

If she really wanted to find a friend it would probably be someone a little nicer;

But how could she ever find one in a sick place like the Slenderman's mansion?

Furthermore, she doesn't speak much, Kate doesn't know why but she always has a weak voice and when she tries to communicate her voice is hoarse;

The reason for this phenomenon is quickly explained;

The blame lies mainly with The Chaser, her alter ego doesn't speak and appears mainly during killing missions and since it basically resembles an animal, it emits growls and animalistic noises to scare and incite the victim to run away;

The Chaser has no need to communicate with other proxies and residents, so it is merely a hunting animal that uses Kate's body and mind as a vessel, as a result it doesn't really have a personality;

The only thing that clearly sets it apart from Kate is its violent nature;

In fact Kate can and is, most of the time, calm and reasonable, especially because she doesn't see the point in instigating or continuing a fight;

𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡

Kate doesn't really consider herself a friend or close to anyone in the mansion;

After all, her duty is to give orders to Masky, Hoodie and Toby, and possibly other proxies;

Behind this, there are people that Kate tolerate more than others;

As... if she think about it, she doesn't remember their names very well;

However, she knows very well that many residents don't like her;

In first place are definitely Masky and Jeff;

Kate referred to Jeff as "the burnt guy with that permanent and creepy smile";

She doesn't even do it on purpose not to remember their names, after all she has only had contact with Toby, Masky, Hoodie, Cody, Rouge, Wilson, The X and The Observer;

We already know why Masky hates her, and as for Jeff, the reasons are very similar;

Jeff is, in generale, a big hater of all people who are not himself, moreover Kate has, in fact, more power than him and is much stronger and this is just a plus for being included among "the first to be hated" list of Jeff;

Furthermore, Kate, being the proxy with the highest position in the hierarchical pyramid, can hack Jeff's entrance to the mansion;

This would be very inconvenient for Jeff as he, quite often, uses the comfort of the mansion to hide from the police;

𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗦𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗦

Forest: since she has to check the 8 Pages, she spends quite a bit of time walking around the woods and checking that everything is in its place.

Her cabin: like all proxies, she owns a small cabin, not too far from the mansion, which she uses when she doesn't have to stay close to Slenderman or when she's not on a mission. Kate is the only proxy who, although she has a room in the mansion, does not use it and instead prefers the comfort of her small cabin.

The dark: although her normal eyes are not that sensitive to light, the sun is still a nuisance, as she is used to the darkness of the mines she was in before Slenderman created the mansion.

The cold: I think her body temperature is a little off, she perceives the summer heat excessively and her body feels good in lower temperatures: this is always due to the long stay in the coal mines.

𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗦𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦

The mansion: I think Kate much preferred it when it was just her, the proxies and the boss. Everything was simpler and more relaxed. Now that the mansion had become home to other psychopaths, ghosts and demons, it was all a confusing and chaotic coming and going.

The Chaser: she feels like The Chaser hasn't always been in her life but she still remembers all the people her alter ego killed and doesn't like it at all. It's raw and animalistic, it makes her feel uncomfortable under her skin that she just wants to rip it away, but can't. She hates the fact that the same hands with which she handles everyday objects such as papers, pens, food, were previously used to kill someone. There was a time when she wanted to kill herself, but what was the point when Slenderman could bring her back to life and punish her?

Her role as a proxy: she doesn't really understand how Masky wants to be in her place. I mean, Masky, not Tim, knows very well what it means to be a proxy like her, why would he want to suffer more and work harder? He probably doesn't and simply wants to not be bossed around by anyone other than Slenderman, Kate can understand this idea, but not totally.

Summer/The heat: Kate becomes completely inactive when her temperature gets even slightly warmer than normal. It's like her brain is going into overload. She feels weak and helpless and she hates it, although she greatly regrets the position she is in, she can't help but feel powerful and strong, and it feels good.

Slenderman: It's his fault, right? She hasn't always worked for him, has she? She feels it's so wrong to side with that pale, faceless creature...

MANNNN i have been a dgs fan since pre-localization and like. i kind of own a physical copy of it and yet i have not played it still just bc some of the differences no matter how small are just so. head in hands. dgs sherlock is the only sherlock adaptation that matters to me and therefore i am so confused when people Actually call him herlock sholmes in the fandom. the worst name localization choices though were absolutely the witnesses from cases 1-1 and 2-1 though with the whole “japanese sounding english puns” like ERGH. who the fuck is “rei membami” that’s murasame haori!!!! (this is also an issue with soj/aa6 but like the issues with racism in that game go even deeper than just the localization so)

It's a real genuine tragedy to me that the scarlet study patch was never finished because if it was then it would be so easy to definitively say that it's the best way to play the games. I have about a million gripes with the localization, most of which are summed up above (playing the first few cases in the japanese courtroom becomes physically painful at times especially as someone who UNDERSTOOD THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE PUNS) but even from just a gameplay standpoint i think a lot was lost by porting those games to the switch. the models were very obviously not meant to be viewed at such high resolution and it makes the 3d cutscenes in game 2 that were BREATHTAKING on the 3ds look cheap and ugly, not to mention the fact that it's one of the few games i've ever played that actually meaningfully integrated the 3d screen into its storyline. (if you have the means, playing case 1-5 on the 3ds is the absolute best way to experience it imo, because the stereoscope plot points were designed specifically with the 3d screen in mind. it makes that whole piece of the case a lot more fun to play.) But they just. never finished game 2. so it's impossible to play the whole story in english without the port. I don't know if anyone who worked on the scarlet study patch is still out there but if you are please god come back. people are tagging my art 'iris wilson.' we need you now more than ever

herlock hadn't intended to adopt either of you. he took iris in because of her father, while you were an orphan that lived on the street

for quite a while, he called iris and you his roommates and nothing more. but over time, he grew attached to the two of you, without ever mentioning it

only when one of you called him “dad” once did he tear up, trying to hide how happy he was

herlock tried to play it off as a joke, in case the two of you didn't want to become his family. but neither you nor iris hesitated to sign those papers!

herlock still treats the two of you very casually most of the time. he's not physically affectionate, so he'll only hug you if you initiate it

however, he does talk very proudly about his kids to his friends and coworkers!

and he also likes to joke that women seem more interested in him, now that he's a single dad…
